Representation & Governance: A Conference in Honor of David Mayhew

This conference is being held on the Yale University campus in the
General Motors Room at Horchow Hall, 55 Hillhouse Avenue, New Haven, CT.

TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR OUT-OF-TOWN GUESTS

LODGING: Conference guests will be lodged at the OMNI New Haven Hotel at Yale located at 155 Temple Street in downtown New Haven.  For more information about their facilities, please visit their website at http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel/NewHavenYale.aspx.  Please contact Pam Greene to make or change reservations.  Your lodging will be direct billed to our departmental account including all room and parking charges.  You should plan to pay any other incidental expenses at the time of check-out and submit the original itemized receipt for expenses that are reimbursable under Yale policy after your trip.

TRAVEL: Air and Amtrak travel can be covered in one of two ways.  One option is to make your travel reservations independently, paying out-of-pocket at the time of purchase, and then requesting reimbursement based on the submission of dated, original receipts after your trip is completed.  The second option is to obtain airline and Amtrak tickets through Yale’s “Orbitz for Business” account.  This way, the tickets can be direct billed to ISPS at the time of purchase and you will enjoy the benefits of any special Yale discounts that are available.  Please contact Pam Greene for instructions.

REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT: Meals and incidental expenses will be reimbursed based on the submission of actual receipts.  Please submit the original, itemized receipt for reimbursement.  For meals, a credit card receipt must be accompanied by an itemized restaurant receipt in order to be reimbursed.  Please save all original travel receipts and submit them with your reimbursement request.  An ISPS Travel Expense Voucher Form is provided for your convenience in recording your travel expenses.  It also asks you to provide important payment information, and to sign and date your request.  Please submit your reimbursement request within 10 days after completing your trip.

Suggestions for Traveling to New Haven, CT

Air Travel
New Haven is serviced by the Tweed/New Haven Airport which is a convenient 10-minute taxi ride to the Yale campus and has daily flights to/from Philadelphia on US Airways.  Other alternatives are Hartford/Bradley International Airport (approx. 1-hour driving time to Yale), or one of the New York airports (La Guardia, JFK, or Newark approx. 2.5 hours driving time).

Connecting Ground Transportation
Taxis, public shuttles, car rental, and private car service are available options for ground transportation between area airports and New Haven.  Please consult with Pam Greene to determine the best option for your travel needs (pamela.greene@yale.edu or 203-432-3052).

Note: If you fly into Bradley Airport, car rental is often the most efficient, convenient, and cost-effective mode of transportation between the airport in Hartford and the Yale campus in New Haven.  Fortunately, it’s an easy drive down I-91 that takes about an hour depending on traffic.  But if you’re not comfortable with driving in an unfamiliar place, consult with Pam Greene about other options.

Train Travel
Amtrak (1-800-USA-RAIL / 1-800-872-7245) is available along the northeast corridor from Boston, New York (Penn Station) or Washington, DC – and points in between – to Union Station in New Haven.  Taxi service is always available outside the station and it’s about a 10 minute ride to the Yale campus.  You can also make Amtrak train reservations through our Yale Orbitz for Business account for direct billing.

Metro North Railroad (1-800-638-7646) provides more frequent commuter train service between Grand Central Station in New York City and Union Station in New Haven.  Contact them directly for schedules, fares, and reservations.

By Car
If you are driving to New Haven in your own car, car mileage will be reimbursed at a rate of $.565 per mile.

In the case of CAR RENTAL, Yale will reimburse for the rental fee and gasoline if original, itemized receipts are submitted.  Please approve the car rental in advance with Pam Greene.

A map and driving directions to the Omni New Haven Hotel can be found on their website.

Parking
Guest parking is available at the Omni New Haven Hotel and will be direct billed to our Yale account.  If you drive to the conference, we recommend that you leave your car at the Omni and either walk to the conference venue or take a taxi for which you can be reimbursed after your trip based on the submission of original receipts.

Local Taxi Service in New Haven
For transportation in New Haven, contact Metro Taxi Service at 203-777-7777.  Please save original receipts to submit for reimbursement after your trip.  Taxi service is always available from Tweed Airport or from New Haven Union Train Station, and you will find queues of taxis just outside the main exits.
