“Distance to the Average U.S. Household and Views About Taxation”

Guest Speaker: Vivekinan Ashok, Ph.D. Candidate in Political Science, Yale University

Abstract: In this project, I test the theoretical predictions and appropriateness of the Meltzer and Richard (1981) model in a survey experiment. I manipulate both the respondent’s standing in the income distribution and the transfer mechanism of a new incremental tax proposal. In each treatment condition, I measure the respondent’s preferred tax rate, perception of benefits, and attitudes about government efficacy.

Speaker Bio: Vivekinan (Vivek) L. Ashok is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at Yale University and a Resident Graduate Student Affiliate at ISPS.
