Rules

Binding Agreement. The following are the Contest Rules (“Rules”) for the 2013 ISPS Health at Yale (“Yale”) Infographic Contest (the “Contest”). Submission of an entry to the Contest constitutes agreement to these Rules, which form a binding legal agreement between You (the “Entrant”) and Yale with respect to the Contest.

Sponsor.  The Institution for Social and Policy Studies, Yale University, 77 Prospect Street, New Haven, Connecticut 06520.

Eligibility. Each person who enters the Contest (“Entrant”), either as an individual or as part of a team, must be a student currently enrolled in either Yale College or a graduate program at Yale University. Teams collaborating on a single contest entry must submit the work as a single entry. A person can only enter once, either as an individual or as a member of a team. If an Entrant is under 18 years of age at the time of entry, a parent or legal guardian must agree to these Rules. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, and is void where prohibited by law. Yale reserves the right to limit participation in the Contest to any person at any time for any reason.

Submissions. Submissions must be received by 11:59:59 pm (Eastern Standard Time) on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Entrants must send their Submissions, as .pdf or .jpeg, in files no larger than 1MB by using this form. Entrants need to include first and last name in the file name (e.g., "JaneSmith_infographic."

All third-party material in Submissions, including statistics, must be cited and referenced in the form of endnotes on a separate page. Specific language from third parties must be in quotations and appropriately cited and referenced.

Judging. The ACA infographic Contest will be judged by Yale University faculty (the “Judges”).  Infographics will be judged based on the quality of the content in the infographics, the infographics’ use of data, the extent to which the infographics communicate information easily and effectively and the overall visual appeal of submissions.  Yale reserves the right to add, delete, amend or modify these criteria at any time. Each Submission will be ranked accordingly to determine winners for first, second and third place prizes. In the event a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, the eligible Entrant with the next highest rank in the pool of Entrants will be chosen. Judges’ determinations are final and binding.

Prizes. Prizes will be awarded per infographic, not per individual (i.e. the prize will be the same, regardless of whether an individual or a team wins it). The first place individual/team will receive a $400 Amazon gift certificate; second place will receive a $150 Amazon gift certificate; and third place will receive a $50 Amazon gift certificate. Entrants shall be solely liable for any applicable federal, state and/or local taxes associated with any prize.

Use of Name and Likeness. You agree to the use by Yale, its agents and assigns, of your name, likeness, biographical information, and/or Submission in print, broadcast, or other forms of distribution, now known or later developed, for promotional or other purposes that support Yale’s mission, without additional compensation.

License. You grant Yale a royalty-free, irrevocable, non-exclusive, worldwide right and license to copy, publish, reproduce, distribute, transmit and publicly display, sublicense, create derivative works of, and perform the Submission (in whole or in part), and to authorize others to do the same, in any medium or manner now known or later developed. These rights include the ability to revise, modify, or edit your submission as is necessary to exercise the foregoing rights in other media or formats. You specifically waive, to the extent permitted by applicable law, any and all “moral rights” you may have in the Submission.

Representations and Warranties. You represent and warrant that: 1) Your Submission is entirely your own original creation and has not been copied in whole or in part from any other work; 2) Your Submission does not violate the rights of any third party (including, but not limited to, privacy rights and copyrights); and 3) You have obtained all necessary rights, including copyrights, to grant Yale the rights and permissions described in these Rules. You have included appropriate citations to the sources of all third-party content.

Indemnity. Yale reserves the right to modify deadlines or requirements, reject any submission, or cancel the Contest at any time for any reason. You agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless Yale, and its officers, directors, trustees, employees and agents, from and against any claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity, including any claims relating to use misappropriation or disclosure of any materials You submit. Yale’s decisions are final in all matters relating to the Contest.

Governing Law. This Contest is governed by, subject to, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Connecticut, excluding all conflict of law rules. If any provision(s) of these Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, seek injunctive relief or make any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with this Contest are hereby excluded, and You expressly waive any and all such rights.

What is ISPS Health at Yale?

On September 27, 2013, during the Ready to Launch Affordable Care Act event, the Institution for Social and Policy Studies will launch ISPS Health at Yale, an initiative that is focused on promoting policy-relevant, interdisciplinary research on health policy at the university, encouraging student participation in health policy, helping to coordinate health policy across the school and formulating evidence-based policy analysis.  ISPS Health will draw on faculty from the university and seek to provide an environment where researchers from a variety of academic disciplines can come together to examine and discuss core topics in American health policy. 

What is an Infographic?

An infographic is a visual representation of information and an increasingly popular tool for sharing complex data and messages in a simple, easily understood form.  For a series of good examples, see infographicworld.

What is the ISPS Affordable Care Act Infographic Contest?

As part of the Ready to Launch: Affordable Care Act event, the Institution for Social and Policy Studies is organizing an infographic contest. Participants are encouraged to submit an infographic on one of the following three themes/questions:

- How the health insurance exchanges will work for individuals buying insurance in the individual market in CT or US in general;
- Understanding the impact of the ACA on children and young adults in CT or US in general;
- Summarizing the impact of the ACA on health promotion and wellness in CT or US in general.. 

Where can I learn more about the ACA?

That’s the fun part! Submissions should include a reference page. Students should consult widely for information and statistics on the ACA. Some good starting sources of information include:
- U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
- Access Health CT
- The Kaiser Family Foundation
- The Commonwealth Fund
- The Congressional Budget Office

How do I make an infographic?

There are some terrific resources like Infogr.am and flowingdata that can help you build an infographic. Be creative. We won’t require a specific software package be used.   

What about citing source material?

All source material must be cited. Entrants must also submit a list of references and be able to provide copies of all source materials. The academic rules for Yale University apply to this contest and your submissions.

Who’s eligible?

All full-time Yale University students are eligible to participate in the infographic contest.  Students may work in teams of up to four people. Both undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students are welcome to submit infographics. Students may only submit one infographic for consideration. 

How will the ACA Infographic Contest be judged?

The ACA infographic Contest will be judged by Yale University faculty. infographics will be judged based on the quality of the content in the infographics, the infographics’ use of data, the extent to which the infographics communicate information easily and effectively and the overall visual appeal of submissions. 

When is the deadline to submit the infographic?

The deadline for submitting your infographic is 11:59:59 pm (midnight), Eastern Standard Time, on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. 

When will the winners be notified?

The winners will be notified on Thursday, September 26, 2013. Winners are strongly encouraged to attend the event at 10:45 am on September 27, 2013, so that they can be awarded their prize. 

What are the prizes?

The winning individual/team will receive a $400 Amazon gift certificate. The second place individual/team will receive a $150 Amazon gift certificate. The third place individual/team will receive a $50 Amazon gift certificate.  

Where will the infographics be shown?

We will post the winning infographics on the newly launched ISPS Health at Yale webpage (coming soon!). In addition to posting infographics on the webpage, we’ll also print out some of the winning infographics and post them in ISPS.
