PBS NewsHour Discusses Safety Net Programs with Jacob Hacker

On October 7 PBS News Hour host, Jeffrey Brown, talked with Jacob Hacker and guest, Stephen Parente (University of Minnesota), about states that opt out of Medicaid expansion. The discussion was set in the broader context of the value of our safety net programs, the cost of the government shutdown on these programs and the vulnerable populations they serve.

In the show Hacker said, “when the Affordable Care Act was passed, the Medicaid expansion was seen as a crucial way of reaching uninsured Americans.”
