Jacob Hacker on the Shrinking Middle Class

On January 6, Minnesota Public Radio’s Daily Circuit host, Tom Weber, aired a discussion on “America’s Shrinking Middle Class,” bringing in ISPS Director Jacob Hacker and Richard Longworth, a senior fellow at Chicago’s Council of Global Affairs. The program focused on the the definition of middle class, which pertains to one’s economic and social place in the world; and what is middle income, which can range from $20,000 to over $100,000. Also discussed were the reasons middle class wages have stagnated, the future of the country’s economic security, and the political responses that could ameliorate the problems of the shrinking middle class. The show took call-in questions from the audience.
