November 20, 2023

In their 2018 book, “How Democracies Die,” Harvard professors of government Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt argued that American democracy is teetering on the edge of disaster.

In a special ISPS event, an expert panel analyzes this claim with the latest research, discusses what does and does not worry them, and answers questions from the audience about what may come next.

• Jacob Hacker, Stanley Resor Professor of Political Science, Yale University

• Susan Stokes, Tiffany and Margaret Blake Distinguished Service Professor, University of Chicago

• Milan Svolik, Professor of Political Science, Yale University

The panel was moderated by Alan Gerber, Sterling Professor of Political Science and Director of ISPS.
