Center for the Study of Inequality

The word "inequality" with "equal" in red letters

The ISPS Center for the Study of Inequality seeks to understand the causes and consequences of inequality in politics and public policy, with a particular focus on economic, racial, and gender inequalities. The center is co-directed by two ISPS faculty fellows: Allison P. Harris, assistant professor of political science, and Dara Strolovitch, professor of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies; American studies; and political science.

The center sponsors and supports a number of activities with its programming:

  • Hosting conference events related to the study of inequality, such as the Justice and Injustice Conference and the Symposium on the Politics of Immigration, Race, and Ethnicity (SPIRE)
  • Providing research funding to Yale graduate students who are interested in exploring issues related to inequality
  • Co-sponsoring guest speakers who conduct research on topics related to inequality in American politics and public policy
  • Convening a graduate student working group where students can workshop their in-progress research

Through these efforts, the Center for the Study of Inequality creates a space for students and faculty interested in inequality to find support for their work and build a community based on shared substantive interests that can have a practical impact on people’s lives.
