The ISPS Center for the Study of Inequality seeks to understand the causes and consequences of inequality in politics and public policy, with a particular focus on economic, racial, and gender inequalities. The center is co-directed by two ISPS faculty fellows: Allison P. Harris, assistant professor of political science, and Dara Strolovitch, professor of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies; American studies; and political science.
The center sponsors and supports a number of activities with its programming:
- Hosting conference events related to the study of inequality, such as the Justice and Injustice Conference and the Symposium on the Politics of Immigration, Race, and Ethnicity (SPIRE)
- Providing research funding to Yale graduate students who are interested in exploring issues related to inequality
- Co-sponsoring guest speakers who conduct research on topics related to inequality in American politics and public policy
- Convening a graduate student working group where students can workshop their in-progress research
Through these efforts, the Center for the Study of Inequality creates a space for students and faculty interested in inequality to find support for their work and build a community based on shared substantive interests that can have a practical impact on people’s lives.
