INTERDISCIPLINARY CENTER FOR BIOETHICS: ANIMAL ETHICS VIRTUAL EVENT

Description: A laboratory at Yale has developed a perfusion method that both restores and sustains metabolic function in ex-vivo pig brains. This work has amazing potential for pure neuroscience (especially brain-mapping), as well as both short- and long-term potential for clinical application in humans. And the work may soon move from pig brains to human brains. This talk will concentrate on the animal-ethics aspects of the lab’s work.

Stephen R. Latham, JD, PhD, is Director of Yale’s Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics. He teaches and writes about a broad range of bioethics-and-law and philosophical bioethics issues. He is a Fellow of the Hastings Center, a former board member and Secretary of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, and serves on editorial bodies for the American Journal of Bioethics, the American Journal of Law and Medicine, the Hastings Center Report, and Health Care Analysis.
