Steven Berry

Professor of Economics and Jeffrey Talpins Faculty Director of the Tobin Center for Economic Policy

Steven Berry is the Sterling Professor of Economics at Yale University, specializing in the empirical analysis of markets in equilibrium. He is currently the inaugural faculty director of the Tobin Center for Economic Policy, a research center focusing on domestic economic policy. Berry is a winner of the Frisch Medal of the Econometric Society and is an elected fellow of that society. He is also an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Kerwin K. Charles is the Indra K. Nooyi Dean & Frederick W. Beinecke Professor of Economics, Policy, and Management at the Yale School of Management (SOM). He has studied and published on a range of topics, including earnings and wealth inequality, conspicuous consumption, race and gender labor market discrimination, health and the labor market, the effects of housing booms and busts, and non-employment in the economy.

Ana De La O

Associate Professor of Political Science

Ana De La O Torres is an associate professor of political science and in the Institution for Social and Policy Studies, with affiliations at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies, and the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Her research relates to the political economy of poverty alleviation, clientelism, and the provision of public goods.

Heather Gerken

Sterling Professor Emeritus of Law

Heather K. Gerken is Sterling Professor Emeritus of Law at Yale Law School and the 11th president of the Ford Foundation. She served as the School’s 17th Dean from 2017 until 2025.

Gerken is one of the country’s leading experts on constitutional law and election law. A founder of the “nationalist school” of federalism, her work focuses on federalism, diversity, and dissent. She was the first female dean in the School’s 200-year history.

Grace Kao

IBM Professor of Sociology and Professor of Ethnicity, Race, and Migration (Secondary)

Grace Kao is IBM Professor of Sociology and professor of ethnicity, race, and migration (secondary appointment, by courtesy) at Yale University. Her research focuses on: 1) racial, ethnic, and immigrant differences in educational outcomes and transition to adulthood; 2) interracial friendships and romantic relationships; 3) sociology of music, especially K-pop and the Hallyu; and 4) dating and marriage in S. Korea. She has written numerous articles and books on these topics.

John Lafferty

John C. Malone Professor of Statistics and Data Science

John Lafferty is the John C. Malone Professor of Statistics and Data Science at Yale, with a secondary appointment in Computer Science. Before joining Yale, Lafferty was Louis Block Professor in the Department of Statistics and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago, and also Adjunct Professor at the Toyota Technological Institute of Chicago.
