Gregory Huber, Ebonya Washington Newly Elected to AAAS

Two ISPS faculty members Gregory Huber, the Forst Family Professor of Political Science and chair of the political science department, and Ebonya Washington, the Samuel C. Park Jr. Professor of Economics, were elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences last week.

 

Huber studies American politics and political economy. He is interested in understanding how interactions among the mass public and elites, political institutions, and policies explain important outcomes. His most recent papers can be found here, here, and here.

 

Washington specializes in public finance and political economy with research interests in the interplay of race, gender, and political representation. Her most recent papers can be found here, here, and here.

 

The AAAS was founded in 1780 by John Adams, John Hancock, and others who believed the new republic should honor exceptionally accomplished individuals and engage them in advancing the public good. 

 

On announcing the awards, David Oxtoby, the president of the AAAS,  said, “This past year has been replete with evidence of how things can get worse; this is an opportunity to illuminate the importance of art, ideas, knowledge, and leadership that can make a better world.”
