Title
ISPS Graduate Policy Fellow, 2026

Nicolás earned his B.A. and M.A. in Sociology from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. His research examines the intersections of culture, violence, and democracy. He has published research on university-based leftist revolutionary movements in Colombia, focusing on their symbols, codes and ritual practices; on the role of ‘fact-icons’ (factual claims that acquire iconic status) in the making of collective trauma; and on the discourse of contemporary far-right intellectuals in Latin America.  His dissertation examines how moral meanings shape the interpretation and contestation of violence, focusing on public responses to the 2021 Rittenhouse shooting during a Black Lives Matter protest.
