“Spellbound: How Charisma Shaped American History from the Puritans to Donald Trump,” Molly Worthen, UNC-Chapel Hill

YALE CENTER FOR CIVIC THOUGHT - GUEST SEMINAR EVENT
Charismatic leaders have an uncanny ability to tell stories that tap into the anxieties and hopes of the moment in a way that no one else is doing. Leaving behind formulaic narratives, charismatic leaders are quirky and distinctly human in their ability to connect with audiences and make sense of their times.
Join Molly Worthen (UNC-Chapel Hill), an expert in the religious and cultural history of the United States, for a small group discussion of Spellbound, her new book on charisma and its significance. Professor Worthen, whose past books include Apostles of Reason: The Crisis of Authority in American Evangelicalism, writes for The New York Times and has contributed to The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Slate and other national publications. She graduated from Yale College in 2003 and earned her Ph.D. in History from Yale in 2011.
Space is limited. Please register by September 12 at this link.
Sponsored by the Yale Center for Civic Thought and the Institution for Social and Policy Studies.
