Blattman (Columbia) Paper on Cash Transfers in Uganda

Chris Blattman, Assistant Professor of Political Science & International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, and formerly at ISPS, released a paper on SSRN, “Credit Constraints, Occupational Choice, and the Process of Development: Long Run Evidence from Cash Transfers in Uganda” (with Nathan Fiala and Sebastian Martinez).

The study, funded in part by ISPS, used a field experiment in Uganda to examine whether giving people cash helps create jobs and speed up the shift from agriculture to industry in developing countries.

The study, also described on Blattman’s blog, has received some press attention (see Slate, Forbes).
