David Mayhew Will Be Parthemos Guest Lecturer

Updated Oct. 21, 2014

Sterling Professor of Political Science, David Mayhew, is this year’s guest speaker at the Annual Parthemos Lecture. The memorial lecture series at the University of Georgia invites one world-known leading political scientist each year to deliver a public lecture, teach an undergraduate class and meet informally with students and faculty. The lecture will take place on October 15.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Mayhew’s undisputed classic, Congress: The Electoral Connection, one of the most widely read and cited books in political science. Mayhew began teaching at Yale in 1968, and Congress was based on his experiences as an APSA fellow on Capitol Hill in 1967-68.

The author of eight books, he is currently writing a journal article on “Congress as a handler of challenges,” he states. The article will be the basis for his next book.
