ISPS Director’s Fellow Receives Truman Scholarship

Bessie Bauman, a junior majoring in economics and one of ISPS’ newest 2020 Director’s Fellow, has won the prestigious Truman Scholarship that helps students dedicated to public service pursue their careers. Recipients of the award are given $30,000 scholarship for graduate school and also the opportunity to particpate in professional development programming. 

Bauman plans to continue her work in income inequality that began at Yale, taking such classes as Econometrics and Data Exploration & Analysis. Her project for the Director’s Fellows program this year is focused on  the economic precariousness of low-and-middle class American families. Outside of her coursework at Yale, she is Co-President of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, which provides free tax services for low-income New Haven residents.
