Richard George
Richard (Richie) George is a sophomore at Yale University studying history. He is interested in building data-informed and community-based solutions for public safety and criminal justice, beyond the carceral state. Their interests extend more broadly to racial justice, democratic governance, and social welfare. Recently, they collaborated with researchers at Columbia University to create quantitative models examining the long-term effects of incarceration on formerly incarcerated people in the United States, considering race, education, and socioeconomic status. They are currently working on a historical project that charts the development of the American carceral state during the mid-twentieth century. At Yale, Richie has served on the executive boards of the Yale Political Union, the Yale Mock Trial Association, the Party of the Left, and the Yale Herald. The rest of his time is spent writing—and more writing.
