Deewa Rahim

ISPS Director's Fellow 2025

Deewa Rahim is a sophomore in Timothy Dwight College majoring in Political Science and pursuing a certificate in Persian and Iranian Studies. Her interests include immigration policy, education policy, and the intersection between the two. Since moving to New Haven, she’s been involved with the IRIS Youth Leadership Program and is passionate about serving the immigrant community. On campus, Deewa is actively involved in the Yale International Relations Association and works at the Middle Eastern & North African Cultural Community.

Kyle Thomas Ramos

Dahl Scholar, 2024-2025

Kyle Thomas Ramos is a third-year student originally from Stuart, FL, pursuing a simultaneous BA/MA in Political Science and an advanced language certificate in Spanish. Under the advice of Professor Christina Kinane, Kyle Thomas studies the interbranch politics of the Federal Judiciary. His research focuses on the strategic creation of judicial vacancies by judges and the methods governing parties employ to entrench their influence in the judiciary, particularly when facing electoral defeat.

John Roemer

Elizabeth S. and A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science and Economics

John Roemer is the Elizabeth S. and A. Varick Professor of Political Science and Economics. He is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, and has been a Fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and the Russell Sage Foundation. His research concerns political economy, and distributive justice. He is currently teaching Political Competition and a Workshop in Political Economy. Publications include: Political Competition, Harvard University Press, 2001; Equality of Opportunity, Harvard University Press, 1998, Theories of Distributive Justice, Harvard University Press, 1996.

Emily Sellars

Assistant Professor of Political Science

Emily Sellars comes to Yale as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. Sellars’ research interests are at the intersection of comparative political economy, development economics, and economic history. Her dissertation, “Essays on Emigration and Politics,” received the 2017 Mancur Olson Award for the best dissertation in political economy defended in the previous two years. Currently, she is working on several papers to be published in The Journal of Politics and the Journal of Development Economics.

Dara Strolovitch

Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Professor of American Studies and Political Science

Dara Z. Strolovitch is Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; American Studies; and Political Science at Yale University, where her research and teaching focus on political representation, social movements, and the intersecting politics of race, class, gender, and sexuality. She received her B.A. in Political Science from Vassar College and her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale. Before coming to Yale, she was Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Minnesota and Professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies at Princeton University.

Patrick Sullivan

Postdoctoral Associate

Patrick is a postdoctoral associate at ISPS’s American Political Economy eXchange (APEX), a PhD candidate at the University of Konstanz, and an associated researcher at “The Politics of Inequality” Research Cluster at the University of Konstanz. His research interests include tax policy, economic inequality, and redistributive preferences. Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education social studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also majored in history, political science, and economics.

Milan Svolik

Elizabeth S. & A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science

Milan Svolik is Elizabeth S. & A. Varick Stout Professor of Political Science at Yale University. His research and teaching focus on comparative politics, political economy, and formal political theory.

He has authored and co-authored articles on the politics of authoritarian regimes and democratization in leading political science journals, including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, and the Journal of Politics.

Peter Swenson

C.M. Saden Professor of Political Science

Peter A. Swenson is Yale’s C.M. Saden Professor of Political Science. He specializes in the comparative political economy of labor markets and social welfare in Europe and the United States. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on the economic, political and social foundations of social policy and market regulation in developed capitalist democracies.

Ian Turner

Assistant Professor of Political Science

Ian Turner is Assistant Professor of Political Science, a Resident Fellow in the Institution of Social and Policy Studies and the Center for the Study of American Politics, and a Faculty Affiliate of the Leitner Program in International and Comparative Political Economy at Yale University. Prior to joining the Yale faculty, he was an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Co-director of the Political Institutions/Political Behavior Research Program at Texas A&M University. Klaudia Wegschaider

Postdoctoral Associate

Klaudia Wegschaider joins the Institution for Social and Policy Studies as a Democratic Innovations postdoctoral associate. Her work focuses on the causes and consequences of electoral reforms, especially enfranchisement. Methodologically, she is primarily a qualitative researcher and combines case studies with quantitative and experimental methods.
